Hair Loss: Get the Facts
Everyone has a certain amount of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. However, men with male pattern hair loss have a sensitivity to DHT that is not found in those without hair loss, nor in areas of the scalp where hair loss is absent. DHT interacts with the hair follicles in a way that disrupts the normal growth cycle. 10 to 15% of hair follicles are normally at rest at any one time but with increased levels of DHT the number of hair follicles at rest increases to over 20% or more.

The American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery/International Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS/IBHRS) is the largest worldwide entity to have established standards for certification for education, training and experience in Hair Restoration Surgery. Physicians who are eligible to apply for ABHRS/IBHRS certification have demonstrated the accumulation of significant experience in the field of Hair Restoration Surgery and have all shown a commitment to high standards of training and education. Those who have achieved certification have demonstrated advanced knowledge in the art and science of hair restoration through peer-reviewed examination. While there is currently no ABMS certification specific to hair restoration, the ABHRS/IBHRS is the only certification recognized by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, the largest hair restoration educational organization in the world.
International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery
The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) is the largest organization of physicians worldwide who specialize in the treatment of hair loss. The ISHRS is a non-profit medical association of over 700 physicians specializing in alopecia and hair loss. The ISHRS provides continuing education to physicians specializing in hair transplant and restoration surgery and gives the public the latest information on medical hair restoration and non-surgical treatment for hair loss.
